Zach Mazurek was born and raised in Brockville, Ontario, where his grandfather, Bruce Mazurek, a diligent Polish immigrant, arrived in 1957. Bruce purchased and led a well-established bakery, raising his growing family with his wife, Henrietta. Tait's Bakery remains a Brockville staple to this day, now under new ownership.

From a young age, Zach was captivated by interests he calls the two Ms: machines and music. His family supported these passions wholeheartedly, offering him space, tolerance for noise, and the necessary equipment. This support was natural, given that Zach’s mother, Claudine, was raised in Spaniard's Bay, Newfoundland, where a love for machines and music was deeply ingrained.

In his youth, Zach played drums and taught himself guitar and bass in the basement. During high school, he joined a band that performed for crowds of up to 5,000 people. He also spent time in his parents' two-car garage working on projects like building a small boat, restoring a 1987 Chevrolet truck, and running a small machine repair business.

Although he initially considered pursuing a trade, Zach chose to study Mechanical Engineering Technology at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario. The Technologist path offered an appealing blend of creative design and hands-on work. His three co-op terms in manufacturing environments, where he interacted with technical professionals, further inspired him to continue his studies. He later enrolled in the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering program at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay.

After graduating from Lakehead University, Zach spent two months exploring Canada by train before relocating to Toronto. There, he sought to immerse himself in the city's vibrant arts scene, collaborate with local musicians, and begin his engineering career.
